As we enter into this Christmas season of Advent, we take the time to reflect on the pillars of our faith: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. This week, let’s light the candle of Hope together…
It’s alright if you’ve been feeling a little down this year – it certainly has been a year filled with challenges. Not everything we’ve hoped for has come to pass. There have been let downs and disappointments and postponements. We may have even felt a little hopeless at times. But let’s not forget where our true hope comes from! It’s not in people, circumstances, and events, but in the One who loves us more than anything! The psalmist so eloquently says, “Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.” (Psalm 25:5 NIV) Our eternal hope is in our Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
With this eternal perspective, we can have hope even on the hard days. And there will be hard days. God knows this too. He has promised to bolster us with a supernatural strength to get through the hard times – and all it takes is hoping in the Lord: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
Our hope is so much more than wishful thinking; it is a belief in God and a trust that He is for us. To hope is to wait with expectation. We are waiting for the return of Jesus – this is our greatest hope! “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23 NIV) And until that day comes, we will continue to celebrate the greatest gift of hope given in all of history – a baby in a manger who would become the hope of the world! Hope for salvation and hope for life eternal with our loving Heavenly Father.
So let your heart be uplifted by the timeless message of Hope found in Christ’s birth, and know how much God loves you this Christmastime.
“As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise You more and more.”
Psalm 71:14 NIV
So elequently written the encouragement you provide.
