Lately I’ve been feeling a bit down, burdened by stress and anxiety and just a general sense of defeat. It’s hard to admit when you’re in a place like this. You wonder why your mood is so low when you know your faith is strong. Like the psalmist says, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?” He goes on to say, “Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.” (Psalm 42:5-6 ESV) That’s convicting. Hope in God. Even when our soul is in turmoil, we can always keep hoping in the Lord.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “‘Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’” (ESV) How encouraging to know that we have the direct help of our Lord and Savior. He promises to strengthen our spirits and to uphold our hearts. We don’t have to be dismayed. Our Helper is here! “So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'” (Hebrews 13:6 ESV) No matter what we’re facing, God is stronger, and with His help, we can overcome.
Are you feeling low? Perhaps a bit dismayed? Fear not. These are normal emotions, but we don’t have to stay stuck in these feelings. Ask God to shower you with strength and courage to face whatever it is that has you feeling down. And remember to seek His presence throughout your day, always remembering the hope that comes from Him.
Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His presence continually!
1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV
