Lately I’ve felt weighted down by a lot of unknowns. My mind has become a whirlpool of swirling negative outcomes. I’ve felt discouraged and let down. I’ve been looking down instead of up and I’ve lost my focus. I’ve lost sight of my anchor. Hebrews 16:9 says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (NIV) Indeed, the Lord is my anchor in a sea of troubles. I cling to the hope I have in Him. As Psalm 130:5 says, “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope.” (NIV)
It can be hard to see the positive when you’re treading water. It can be difficult to hold on to hope when life is weighing you down. But there is always hope on the horizon, if we look long enough to see it. The Bible encourages us: “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24 NIV) Romans 5:5 goes on to say, “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (NIV) Truly, our hope in the Lord and God’s love for us make any burden easier to bear. God did not promise a life without pain, grief, and heartache. But He does promise to be our refuge – our anchor – in life’s storms. Today, I’m remembering that. Won’t you also put your hope in Him?
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul…
