As we continue our Advent reflections this Christmastime, let’s light the candle of peace together…
In the dictionary, Peace is defined as “the freedom of disturbance; or tranquility.” We may all wish for a little more tranquility in our lives, but as Christians, we know Peace to mean so much more. The Hebrew word for Peace is Shalom – meaning peace, harmony, wholeness, and completeness. It encompasses the depth of our peace and fullness in the Lord. Jesus told His disciples about this incredible wholeness that stretches far beyond our earthly needs for tranquility: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27 ESV)
Ephesians 2:14 says, “For He Himself is our peace…” (NIV). Peace in Christ Himself is the source of our Shalom – our wholeness – no matter what is going on in our lives or in our world. Indeed, it is only “… the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, [that] will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7 ESV)
Are you feeling unsettled? Anxious? Unsure about the future, or even today? Fear not! Immanuel has come – God with us! As a result of Christ’s coming and His sacrifice on the cross, we have an eternal peace, a wholeness. In Him we are complete. We have the promise of eternity with Him someday. What greater Peace is there than this?
No matter what is happening in your life right now, God sees you. He loves you. He longs to bless you with the gift of true Peace in Him. Will you open your heart to receive His Peace today? “Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.” (2 Corinthians 13:11 NKJV)
For He Himself is our peace…
Ephesians 2:14 NIV
Beautiful reminder of the Peace and wholeness that Jesus brings us in this season and each day of our lives! God is with us, whom shall we fear? Jesus brings us peace and makes our hearts whole❤️
