Beside Still Waters

Are you feeling overwhelmed? There are so many distractions that can take up our time and energy, leaving us feeling drained and depleted. Whether it’s a hectic workload, busyness with family, or even anxiety over change, feelings of being overwhelmed can wash over us at any time. Here is what the Lord has to say about finding rest for your weary soul.

In the midst of their busy ministry, Jesus said to His disciples: “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31 NIV) Jesus communicated the importance of having alone time with Him. Time to just rest in the presence of the Lord. Even if it means taking a break from important work. Remember, the work will still be there to return to once you have rested and recovered.

In Psalm 23:1-3, David writes: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul…” (ESV) Like a gentle shepherd, Jesus beckons us to draw near to Him. To find a quiet place of solitary refuge where we can reconnect with our Heavenly Father and draw comfort from Him. He also supplies our physical needs of sleep and nourishment, while also restoring our soul. He takes care of us completely. We can depend on Him for everything and every need.

So, the next time you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, remember the image of still waters. Take yourself to that peaceful place where you can rest at the feet of Jesus and be comforted. Go to your gentle Shepherd and be made whole.

He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul…

Psalm 23:2-3 ESV
