Has the Lord charged you with a task? Perhaps it’s caring for aging parents, becoming a first-time parent, or working in the lives of the people at your church. Maybe it’s running a youth ministry, starting a new job, or moving across the country. Whatever your “work” is, the Bible tells us to keep pressing forward in it, until the time of its completion. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (NIV) Each day, the seeds we sow are the start of something beautiful. As we tend to our task – like watering and weeding – our seeds will begin to grow. Those seeds will one day be ready to harvest, a sweet reward for all of our hours of labor and toiling under the hot sun. The work isn’t easy, my friend, but it is good work and for a good purpose.
2 Chronicles 15:7 assures us that our hard work is not for nothing: “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” (NIV) The only way we can stay strong is in Jesus. With His hand on our spirit, He can move us to do mighty things outside of our own strength. He won’t stop until our good work is finished. Let’s follow His lead and keep pressing on, day by day, moment by moment. It isn’t easy, but it is most definitely worth it in the end. Even if we don’t see our reward this side of Heaven, we can know that God the Father will be well pleased with our efforts and that is a reward in itself.
Let us not become weary in doing good…
