Have you ever found yourself unsure of what to do next? Perhaps there’s a big decision you’re facing and you don’t know which choice to make. Maybe the future feels uncertain, and you just don’t know what God has in store for you. What can we do at times like these?
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” (BSB) We can rely upon the Lord to influence our decisions when we trust in Him and take our concerns to Him in prayer. Indeed, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5 NIV) God is ready to give us spiritual wisdom so we can discern between good options and the best option. He wants to help lead us down the right path, which will ultimately bring Him glory.
Sometimes we can forget to take our concerns to the King. Instead we fret over the choices we have to make, as though we were making them on our own. Psalm 32:8 reminds us that God has our best interest at heart: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (NIV) God is always there for us, just waiting to help us. He knows what’s in our best interest and will use the Holy Spirit to prompt us in our decision making. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV)
So whatever decisions you’re faced with today, remember this. God is sovereign over everything. He has a perfect plan for your life. Include Him in your decision making and you can’t go wrong. He will lead you and guide you in the way to walk, if only you listen for His prompting. Pray over your decision daily and when the time is right, God will reveal to you the very best option. Then it’s time to move forward in confident victory!
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
