Recently I had a job interview that I was anxiously preparing for. Several days before the interview I was a wreck with nerves. So many uncertainties lay before me. Would they like me? Would they think I was qualified? Would I get the job?
My heart was filled with worry. Have you ever felt this way? You probably know what it feels like to doubt yourself and your abilities. You heap on the negative self-talk, all the while forgetting what an amazing creation you are as God’s own child! He sees you in your self-doubt and He says, believe in me… “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’” (Isaiah 41:13 NIV)
God calls us to Him. He wants to know when our hearts are troubled. He wants to share in our desires. In a psalm of lament and trepidation for His future, David declares, “All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.” (Psalm 38:9 NIV) Don’t hide your desires from the Lord. He longs to help you along the way. He promises to do so. He tells us, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’
These scriptures helped me to relax about my interview. They reminded me that I was not alone and that God saw my heart’s longing. Turns out, the interview went great! I could sense the Lord’s blessing as I answered the questions with enthusiasm. Whether or not I get this job is ultimately up to Him, so as I await the results, I’m trusting Him all the way!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
