What burdens do you carry? What weighs heavily on your mind? Maybe there’s something big that keeps you awake at night, tossing and turning and unable to rest. Even everyday stressors can get the best of us sometimes. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s heavy to bear and you’re probably tired of carrying it.
Can I invite you to lay your burden down? Yes, lay it down right now at the feet of Jesus. He is willing to take it from you so you don’t have to carry it anymore. Psalm 55:22 says, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” (NLT)
The Lord even offers an exchange. He says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30 BSB) God doesn’t intend for us to go around feeling weighed down by anxiety, depression, loneliness, or frustration. He has a better way. A gentle yoke that will help steer us in the right direction with a burden that is light and easier to bear.
God offers rest for our souls. But first we need to lay our burdens down, relinquishing them to Him. He is our redeemer and our provider. He promises to watch over us and take care of us. Let Him ease your burdens, whatever they may be. Romans 8:28 reminds us that He is always at work: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (NIV)
Go ahead and find the freedom in exchanging your heavy burden for the gentle yoke of Jesus.
Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you…
