Our Shelter

In our crazy busy world, it can become easy to feel disoriented and stressed out. Where can we turn to when we’re looking for shelter from life’s storms? If it’s an ongoing crisis, or even just one bad day, we can rely upon the gentle presence of our Father to be our shelter in our moment of need. Psalm 91:4 says, “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.” (NLT)

I love that beautiful visual of being tenderly guarded by God’s strong “wings.” I can envision His arms around me, holding me close and secure. Psalm 27:4-5 offers another beautiful example of the Lord being our shelter in times of distress: “One thing I have asked of the Lord; this is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and seek Him in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high upon a rock.” (NIV)

Someday, we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever, but even now we have the benefit of His loving protection and presence in our lives. Let us not forget that the Mighty King we serve also meets us tenderly in our most vulnerable moments. We are forever sheltered by His wings.

He will shelter you with His wings…

Psalm 91:4 NLT
