Perseverance can be defined as, “persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” Perseverance means hanging in there when the going gets rough, when there are uncertainties and unknowns, when the trials just seem to keep on coming, when the road is long with no end in sight. That is perseverance. The willingness to keep pushing forward, no matter the circumstance. To hold on to hope and our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that He is with us each step of the way. James 1:2-4 speaks to just that: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (NIV)
Our trials produce deeper faith – a more mature and complete faith that comes with a total trust in and reliance upon God. Full surrender. That’s what the Lord desires of us when we come into a trying season. To have full dependence on Him and His provision. Because God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him. He will strengthen your faith as you face the giant before you.
What trials are you facing today? Have you stopped long enough to take them to the Lord in earnest prayer? That’s where every battle should begin – on our knees. I urge you to go to Jesus with your concerns. Ask Him to show you the way and accept His answers when they come. He cares for you and He wants nothing more than to see you succeed and persevere through every challenge life throws your way. So let us hold onto our faith and persevere today!
You know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
