Knowledge. Understanding. Good judgment. All of these together result in wisdom. Proverbs 3:13 says, “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.” (NIV) Wisdom is mentioned many times throughout the Bible as something vitally important to have. And which of us doesn’t need wisdom? We all do – all the time. From big decisions to everyday interactions, we all can benefit from God’s influence in our lives.
So how do we receive Godly wisdom? James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (NLT) Proverbs 2:6 continues to say, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (NIV) The Bible says all we need to do is ask the Lord for wisdom and He will give it freely. God says, “I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.” (Proverbs 4:11 NIV)
I know I am in need of some Godly wisdom in my life right now. There are some decisions I am having a difficult time making. How about you? What areas of your life could benefit from seeking God’s wise counsel? “Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 24:14 NIV) I desire the kind of hope that wisdom can provide. I hope you find it too!
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
