When is the last time you thanked God? Was it this morning, last week, or can you not remember? The Bible tells us to, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV) Indeed, God is deserving of our praise and thanks. He provides for us in so many ways and blesses us daily. Just think of the beautiful blue sky you woke up to this morning, or the birds chirping in the trees. Think of the breakfast you had to eat and the nice text you received from a friend. Think of the flowers growing in your yard and the new outfit you bought last week. There are so many little blessings to be grateful for each and every day.
We should, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:4-5 NIV) Consider this call to action. Make a point to thank the Lord for something – even just one thing – every day. You may even want to begin a gratitude list to keep track of all the blessings in your life. You’ll even start to notice a brighter outlook on life when you do this small, simple practice. Because being aware of our blessings means we are looking at life with an eternal perspective, always grateful to the One who provides.
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 9:1 NIV
